September 2024 EAIE Conference and Exhibition

To boost the international recognition of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE), the HKEAA delegation participated in the 2024 European Association for International Education (EAIE) Conference and Exhibition, held in Toulouse, France from 17 -20 September 2024.

The delegation, led by Secretary General Prof Wei Xiang-dong, set up a dedicated booth to promote the HKDSE to tertiary institutions and academic organisations from about 60 countries/regions across the world. The HKEAA representatives, together with Dr Choi Yuk-lin, the Secretary for Education and the delegation from Hong Kong universities, also met with representatives of the EAIE, the France Universités and presidents of esteemed French universities. The HKEAA’s introduction on the developments and advantages of the HKDSE during the exhibition and meetings were well received by the institutions. Institution representatives expressed interest in admitting Hong Kong students, and some of them even provided admission requirement information for HKDSE holders during the exhibition, which will be made available on the HKEAA website for Hong Kong students’ reference.

To further promote the HKDSE, a luncheon reception was organised on 19 September, with the participation of about 30 representatives from institutions in France, Germany, Norway and Belgium. The luncheon was graced by the presence of Dr Choi Yuk-lin, the Secretary for Education; Prof James Tang, Secretary General of the University Grants Committee(UGC); and Prof Alan Au, Vice President of Hong Kong Metropolitan University(HKMU). Prof Wei and our representatives discussed and exchanged views with the guests on the recent developments and recognition of the HKDSE.

August 2024 Stakeholders' Forum

The annual Stakeholders’ Forum was successfully held on 24 August 2024. Hosted by Mr Samuel Yung Wing-ki, the HKEAA Chairman, Prof Wei Xiang-dong, the Secretary General and the three Directors of the HKEAA, the Forum welcomed over 20 representatives from school councils, professional bodies of the education sector, Parent-Teacher Associations and special educational needs (SEN) concern groups, to exchange views on the operations of the 2024 HKDSE, as well as various public examinations and assessment services administered by the HKEAA.

At the Forum, the HKEAA representatives presented the operation of the 2024 HKDSE, including pilot examination centres set up in the two Mainland participating schools for the first time in Mainland cities of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) and the smooth conduct of the examinations. The HKEAA also shared the fruitful efforts in promoting the international recognition of HKDSE. During the Forum, the participants recognised the work of HKEAA in offering quality assessment services and shared their views on the matters concerned.

Mr Yung reviewed his work as the Chairman of the HKEAA in the past six years, in particular conducting the HKDSE successfully during the pandemic. He also expressed gratitude to the Education Bureau, schools, teachers, candidates, parents and different government departments for their contribution to the smooth administration of the HKDSE.

This year, the forum was held at the new HKEAA Hung Hom Office and Examination Centre, renovated from the former Hung Hom Government Primary School premises. After the event, a guided tour was arranged for all the participants to introduce the new examination facilities and HKEAA Information Centre, which will open soon in the second half of the year.

July The HKEAA Participated in the 30th Hong Kong International Education and Careers Expo

The HKEAA participated in the 30th Hong Kong International Education and Careers Expo, organised by the Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong, on 6 to 7 July 2024 to enhance public understanding of the HKDSE and its qualification recognition, as well as a variety of international and professional examinations.

Mr Samuel Yung Wing-ki, the Authority’s Chairman, attended the opening ceremony of the Expo as the officiating guest. After the ceremony, Mr Yung and other officiating guests visited the HKEAA exhibition booth, which showcased information on public examinations and assessment, and multiple pathways for further studies.

Meanwhile, Prof Ricardo Mak, Director of Public Examinations of the Authority presented at a seminar session during the Expo to introduce the latest development of the HKDSE to the public, including its international recognition and the latest assessment arrangements for the 2025 HKDSE.

    March Webinar on the HKDSE for Mainland Schools

    A webinar was held on 15 March 2024 to provide updates on the HKDSE and introduce the feedback services for teachers and students for Mainland schools offering the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE) curriculum, including the Mainland schools that have been approved to become HKDSE participating school.

    During the webinar, Prof Wei Xiang-dong, the Secretary General of the HKEAA, shared the latest development and international recognition of the HKDSE. He also explained the pilot arrangement for setting up HKDSE examination centres in designated locations in the Mainland cities of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in the 2024 HKDSE. Dr Siu Wai-lok, the Head of Assessment Technology and Research, introduced the features of the HKDSE Diagnostic Feedback System (DFS), which is a one-stop platform for teachers and students to carry out assessment and obtain useful feedback.

    March 2024 APAIE Conference and Exhibition

    To enhance the international recognition of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE), a delegation from the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA) participated in the 2024 Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) Conference and Exhibition in Perth, Australia, in early March 2024. At the conference, the delegation, led by Secretary General Professor Wei Xiang-dong, set up a dedicated booth to provide information and engage with representatives from over 250 overseas higher education institutions. We took this opportunity to encourage the institutions to admit Hong Kong students directly based on their HKDSE results and provide relevant admission requirements, which would be published on the HKEAA website for the candidates’ reference. These institutions represented over 20 countries in Europe, North America, Asia-Pacific region, as well as countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative, such as Kazakhstan.

    To further promote the HKDSE, a luncheon reception was organised on 7 March, with the participation of about 40 representatives from overseas institutions. The luncheon was graced by the presence of Dr Choi Yuk-lin, the Secretary for Education, who delivered a speech highlighting the merits of the HKDSE. During a panel discussion, Professor Wei and our representatives also exchanged views with the guests on the recent development of the HKDSE.

    January Online Information Seminars on HKDSE Core Subjects
    The annual information seminars on HKDSE core subjects were held on 27 January, representatives of the HKEAA introduced the assessment requirements of the HKDSE core subjects, including Chinese Language, English Language, Mathematics and Citizenship and Social Development and useful information about taking the examinations.     January The HKEAA Assessment Centre Open Day

    This year, over 300 students, parents and members of the public joined the HKEAA Assessment Centre Open Day on 13 January. Visitors had the chance to try out the Onscreen Marking (OSM), scripts scanning and the Second Generation Public Examinations Support System (PESS2), to gain insights into the behind-the-scenes of public examinations. During the Open Day, members of the public could participate in game booths with prizes, to get a better understanding of the services offered by the HKEAA and assessment information.
