| The HKEAA conducts benchmarking studies regularly to compare the score levels of the HKDSE English Language Examination to those of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). The table below shows the equivalents of Level 3 to Level 5** on the HKDSE English Language Examination with respect to the IELTS band levels, based on a pooled sample of HKDSE English Language Examination candidates (2019, 2021 and 2023) who voluntarily provided their IELTS results to the HKEAA for data analysis.
