- A crucial point for students to consider whether to take new Other Languages (OL) subjects is how universities recognise the achievements because different OL examinations no longer use the same scale of performance assessment. Will there be a points recognition by universities for 2025 onwards?
- The universities and JUPAS have been informed about the new arrangements for Category C Other Languages subjects for the 2025 HKDSE and thereafter. The admission considerations and decisions, including whether there is a points conversion system, rest with the universities and JUPAS. Different faculties / departments of tertiary institutions may set admission requirements regarding the Category C subjects for the 2025 HKDSE and beyond and may announce the requirements in due course.
- It should be noted that the language proficiency levels of the five Other Languages examinations are linked to their national standards. These language examinations are carried out worldwide and results in these examinations are official qualifications recognised by the respective countries and accepted internationally.
- If a student takes two Other Language subjects in Category C, will the universities regard the two languages as two different subjects when it comes to their HKDSE results? Or only one is considered?
- Candidates can take more than one Category C subject and they will be treated as different subjects when they are reported on the HKDSE results notice and certificate. It should, however, be noted that candidates may take up to a maximum of eight subjects in the same year of HKDSE. These subjects may come from any of Categories A, B or C.
- Candidates should be aware that different disciplines in tertiary institutions may require different subject combinations in the HKDSE. The admission requirements are subject to decisions of different faculties / departments of tertiary institutions.
