Appointment of New Secretary General

The HKEAA announced the appointment of Professor Wei Xiang-dong as Secretary General, effective 1 March 2021. He will succeed Dr So Kwok-sang who has joined the HKEAA since September 2017.

Mr Samuel Yung Wing-ki, Chairman of the HKEAA, is confident that Professor Wei will be able to reinforce the HKEAA’s pursuit of excellence in delivering examinations and assessment to meet the community’s educational needs, with his profound knowledge in e-learning research and rich experience in administration and management. Mr Yung also expressed his deepest gratitude to Dr So Kwok-sang, the current Secretary General, for his contribution to the HKEAA and the education community in the past three years, in particular his leadership in the smooth delivery of the 2020 HKDSE, which is among the first large scale public examinations administered during the COVID-19 pandemic around the world.

Currently a Professor of the Department of Economics at the Lingnan University, Professor Wei is an expert in Economics of Education and is now the Director of Pan Su-tong Shanghai-Hong Kong Economic Policy Research Institute and China Economic Research Programme. He had served as Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Lingnan University, as well as the Supervisor cum Deputy Chairman of the Board of Governors of Lingnan Institute of Further Education. He also took up various teaching and research positions in universities in the UK and the Mainland.

HKEAA Staff Commended for Professional Customer Services

For nine years in a row, HKEAA staff members have received The Ombudsman's Awards for Officers of Public Organisations. This year, Ms Rita Wong from the International and Professional Examinations Division, and Ms Sherman Wong from the School Examinations and Assessment Division were awarded for their professionalism and commitment to providing quality services for candidates and members of the public, as well as handling enquiries and complaints in a positive and impartial manner.

A total of 15 HKEAA staff members have been recognised by The Ombudsman since 2012.

The Research Forum this year offered both in-person and online sessions

The HKEAA Research Forum 2020 welcomed more than 1000 teachers

The HKEAA held its second Research Forum on 12 November 2020, with the theme of ‘Opportunities and Challenges in Assessment in the Digital Era’. Featuring keynote addresses by local and international academics and parallel sessions, research findings on using technology in public examinations and assessments, including the applications of computer-based testing as well as the use of assessment data to facilitate learning were presented and discussed.

The Forum served as a platform for educators, academics and researchers to share their experience and exchange insights in leveraging technology in educational assessment. The Forum, held online and on-site, was attended by over 1,300 teachers, school leaders and researchers. Click here for details.

2020 QAMAS Certification Presentation Ceremony was webcasted live to reach schools and teachers

Twelve Secondary and Primary Schools Accredited for Quality Assessment Management

In recognition of their commitment to quality examination and assessment management, 12 primary and secondary schools were accredited in the 2020 Quality Assessment Management Accreditation Scheme (QAMAS).

A total of nine representatives from the accredited schools received the QAMAS certificate at the presentation ceremony held at the HKEAA office on 7 December 2020, while more than 60 school principals and teachers joined the event via webcast.

Dr Siu Wai-lok, Head of Assessment Technology and Research of the HKEAA, also shared updates on the e-marking module of the Assessment Quality-assurance Platform (AQP).

Join the 2021 HKDSE Information Seminar

Our popular HKDSE Information Seminar series will return online on 30 January 2021. The seminar will cover topics including marking and grading, various quality control mechanisms, as well as the contingency measures for the 2021 HKDSE. Parents of senior secondary school students and private candidates are welcome to join the seminar.

New Look for the HKEAA website

The HKEAA corporate website now has a brand-new look. The enhanced website boasts a lively design and features streaming video resources on examinations, Google Map for examination centres, an advanced search engine and a registration calendar for a wide range of international and professional examinations. Another key feature of the site is its responsive design meaning that it responds to the device it’s being used on and resizes accordingly. This will enable users to access information about our services on the go much more easily, on mobile or tablet as well as desktop computer.

Committed to meeting communication and information needs of our stakeholders we have studied how people used the site and new features were introduced. Please visit the HKEAA website and let us know your feedback.
