Reporting of SBA Results
Questions:
Answers:
  1. How is the SBA result reported?

Profile reporting is adopted for HKDSE English Language. In addition to an overall level for the subject, candidates are awarded a level for each of the four components, namely Reading, Writing, Listening & Integrated Skills, and Speaking. As the SBA of English Language is an assessment of students' speaking performance, the SBA result is reported together with the Paper 4 Speaking examination result in the Speaking component which accounts for 25% of the subject mark, where Paper 4 Speaking is worth 10% and the SBA, 15%. The SBA marks submitted by schools are moderated (using statistical moderation supplemented with sample review of students' work) before they are combined with the speaking examination marks to form the total component mark. For details about SBA moderation, please refer to the booklet 'Moderation of School-based Assessment Scores in the HKDSE' which is available on the HKEAA website.
