![]() ![]() The HKEAA will open its fourth assessment centre in April 2010 to expand its onscreen marking capacity. The new assessment centre is located at 15/F, Landmark North, Sheung Shui and will provide 190 workstations for marking of public examination papers onscreen. This year a total of 17 HKCEE and HKALE subjects will be marked onscreen and about 3,800 markers will be engaged for onscreen marking. The Sheung Shui Assessment Centre is easily accessible by markers who live or work in New Territories East, and it will be open from 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 p.m. during the marking period. Onscreen marking is one of the HKEAA’s initiatives to improve quality, efficiency and security of public examinations marking. The HKEAA has operated three assessment centres in Wan Chai, Lai King and Tsuen Wan since 2007. The primary function of these centres is to facilitate onscreen marking of public examinations but they are also used for the delivery and marking of a wide range of other examinations and assessments.
To meet the growing demand for suitable listening test venues, the HKEAA has decided to provide infra-red transmission systems in 28 schools which could not be used as listening test centres due to the unsatisfactory radio reception in their school halls. This means that over 9,000 CE and AL candidates will be able to take the test with headphones provided by the HKEAA where the test is broadcast through an infra-red transmission system. On the other hand, the vast majority of AL and CE candidates sitting the listening tests in the English and Chinese language subjects are required to bring their own radio sets equipped with earphones to listen to the tests broadcast by RTHK. To ensure the quality of radio reception is acceptable, each year a special team of examination administration staff is sent to the schools to conduct a field test on the radio reception to ensure the venues are suitable for conducting listening tests. With the installation of the infra-red transmission system, the HKEAA will be able to use venues with unsatisfactory radio reception for conducting listening tests, and it will be easier to assign candidates to centres near their homes.
The training package has been developed by the SBA Consultancy Team of the Faculty of Education, The University of Hong Kong and is specially designed for the 2012 HKDSE English Language examination. It includes an introductory DVD, a booklet and a training DVD for teachers which contains the requirements of the SBA component, samples of assessment tasks and performance, and the assessment criteria. The training packages will be released to schools via the SBA district coordinators in late March. An online version will also be made available on the HKEAA website for teachers’ quick reference. SBA is one of the salient features of the HKDSE. In 2012, it will be implemented in 12 subjects, including three core subjects: Chinese, English and Liberal Studies, and nine elective subjects.
The new senior secondary academic structure has been implemented since September 2009 and the first Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE) will be held in 2012. In view of the need for teachers to have a good understanding of public examinations and school-based assessment, the HKEAA is conducting a series of Assessment Training Programmes for secondary school teachers. The programme has been offered from the start of this school year and will continue to be offered till the administration of the first HKDSE examination. This six-hour training course focuses on the basic principles of assessment and testing, and test constructs and their applications. The HKEAA will invite secondary school teachers to enrol for this training programme through their schools. Please contact the Assessment Development Division ad@hkeaa.edu.hk for further details. |
