  HKEAA recognised by The Ombudsman

2014 has been a fantastic year for the HKEAA as both the Authority and its staff member were the proud awardees of the "The Ombudsman’s Awards". For the past three years some staff members have been receiving "The Ombudsman´s Awards for Officers of Public Organisations" in recognition of their exemplary performance in customer care. The awardee for officer this year was Mr Benny Chan, senior officer of the School Examinations and Assessment Division, and we believed this award was thoroughly deserved.

The Chairman of the HKEAA Council, Mr Rock Chen Chung-nin, said that the awards had given great encouragement to the entire HKEAA team and the Authority has all the more reason to foster a culture of continuous improvement across the organisation.

  HKEAA Open Days 2014

The 2014 Open days were the third time round for the HKEAA to open its assessment centres to students, parents and the public. Each year we seek to improve our visitors´ experience in familiarising with the HKDSE and the marking and grading of public examinations. During the three-day events we had arranged a number of seminars and workshops for about a thousand of visitors.

The seminars on assessment design of the HKDSE core subjects’ examinations were most popular among students, as students were keen to learn how they were being assessed. At the same time, we set up mock-up rooms for speaking tests in the two assessment centres in Lai King and Fortress Hill. Demonstration of the Oral Recording System (ORS), a special computer system designed to record the speaking test proceedings was arranged for the very first time and it had drawn considerable attention from our visitors.

For those who missed this year’s events, please visit the HKEAA website for the highlights.

  HKDSE gains broader recognition

Among the 200 overseas tertiary institutions which accept application from HKDSE graduates, a growing number of Irish institutions are prepared to join the list.

Dr Tong Chong-sze, Secretary General of the HKEAA, who returned from a visit to the Republic of Ireland promoting the HKDSE in early November, was pleased to hear that Irish universities and tertiary education sector welcome higher undergraduate student intake from Hong Kong.

"We would try our best to continue our support to provide students with more informed choices for their multiple pathways," said Dr Tong.
