Contingency and Strengthened Precautionary Measures for the 2022 HKDSE

In light of the latest development of the COVID-19 pandemic, the HKEAA has recently announced the revised 2022 Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE) timetable with written examinations to be held from 22 April to 14 May tentatively, as well as a series of strengthened precautionary measures to be implemented at examination centres. In addition, the English Language speaking examinations have been cancelled and the practical examinations of Physical Education and Music will be postponed to late May/ early June.

Revised Examination Timetable and Fallback Plans
According to the revised examination timetable, the first subject will be English Language Papers 1 and 2, while the last subject will be History. The date of release of results remains to be 20 July tentatively. Meanwhile, fallback plans have been developed. If the pandemic situation remains fluctuating by early April, the HKDSE will be postponed to mid-May. If the pandemic situation persists by late April, the written examinations will be further postponed to early June. If the pandemic situation remains severe by mid-May, the 2022 HKDSE will be cancelled. The HKEAA will predict candidates’ HKDSE results based on their school internal assessment marks. For details, please refer to the press releases issued in January and February 2022.

Strengthened Precautionary Measures at Examination Centres
To safeguard the health of candidates and examination personnel, a series of strengthened precautionary measures will be implemented at examination centres this year. In addition to precautionary measures taken in recent years, including checking body temperature, wearing surgical masks, completing the ‘Candidate’s Declaration on Health’, sanitising hands, candidates and examination personnel are also required to perform COVID-19 rapid antigen test before going to the examination centre on each examination day. In addition, to prevent candidates from taking off their masks inside the examination hall/room and mitigate the risk of infections, the procedure for checking candidates’ identity will take place in an open area and before the examination. For the detailed arrangements, please check out here.

School Leaders’ Forum
In order to enlist the full support and collaboration of participating schools to facilitate the smooth delivery of the 2022 HKDSE under the changing situation, an online School Leaders’ Forum was held on 1 March for over 700 school principals and teachers. Hosted by Prof Wei Xiang-dong, Secretary General, Prof Ricardo Mak, Director of Public Examinations, Ms Choy Siu-kwan, Head of Assessment Development and Ms Margaret Hui, Head of School Examinations and Administration of the HKEAA, together with representatives of the Education Bureau, participants were presented with the revised examination timetables, fallback plans, strengthened precautionary measures at examination centres, and arrangements for marking and School-based Assessment marks submission.
