FAQ on SBA - Biology
Question:
Are there any guidelines for assessing practical related and non-practical related tasks? Must the teachers make assessments using checklists? Do coordinators check the marking standards of individual teachers?
Answer:
Guidelines and assessment criteria for assessment of practical related and non-practical related tasks are included in the SBA Handbook. Sample tasks have been developed to help illustrate the assessment criteria.

A 10-point scale will be used for the assessment of SBA tasks. Teachers can award marks using a scheme of marking, e.g. a checklist, or some other suitable scheme. The mark awarded should reflect the student’s quality of work: poor (1-2 marks); fair (3-5 marks); good (6-8 marks) and excellent (9-10 marks).

There will be coordinators to help teachers during the implementation of SBA. They will help to ensure consistency of marking across schools.
