Test period / date:
Pearson Edexcel GCE - Chinese - Starting from 18 April 2023
Cambridge International GCE - French and Spanish (AS Level) - 15 April 2023
The admission form of the speaking test will be sent to private candidates by email in the week of 20 March 2023. For school candidates, the admission forms will be sent to their schools for distribution. If candidates have not yet received the admission forms by 28 March 2023, please contact the HKEAA or schools immediately for further assistance.
*Please note that the speaking test date is subject to the availability of the oral examiners and exam venues. Candidates must make themselves available on the date and time assigned on the admission form. No rescheduling of the speaking test will be arranged if candidates are unable to attend the speaking test as scheduled.

As announced by Cambridge International, the following GCE examinations in May/June 2023 has to be rescheduled due to 8 May 2023 being an additional public holiday in celebration of the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III. The updated examination timetable is now available at here.

(A) Pearson Edexcel, GCE
Candidates are required to submit their registration via the HKEAA Online Registration System (online.hkeaa.edu.hk) during the registration period. They should first obtain the school code through their school heads. They should upload the image of their valid Hong Kong Identity Cards or other identification documents* and settle the payment online. Examination fees must be settled online by 16 December 2022 (5:30 p.m.).
Eligible NCS school candidates who wish to apply for the “subsidised examination fee” for taking the Pearson Edexcel GCE Chinese examination MUST contact their schools for registration. Schools are required to submit the registrations via IPE Digital Form system during the registration period. After the registrations are submitted by schools, an entry form will be generated by the system automatically and schools will distribute the entry forms to candidates for signature. Candidates should check if the registration information is correct. If amendments on the forms are required, please contact the schools for further assistance. At last, schools will return the signed entry form with the photocopy of candidates identification documents (e.g. HKID card / Passport*) to the HKEAA San Po Kong Office in person no later than 16 December 2022 (5:30 p.m.).
Candidates are required to submit their registration via the HKEAA Online Registration System (online.hkeaa.edu.hk) during the registration period. They should upload the image of their valid Hong Kong Identity Cards or other identification documents* for checking at the time of registration. Candidates must complete the online registration and settle the examination fees by 16 December 2022 (5:30 p.m.). Candidates are advised to submit their entries as early as possible in order to avoid the rush in the last few days.
*with effect from 31 January 2021, British National (Overseas) (BN(O)) passport cannot be used as any form of proof of identity in Hong Kong. Applicants may use alternative form of valid and acceptable identification document as proof of identity for the registration of Pearson Edexcel GCE Examinations.

- Grade E or above in all HKALE# A-level and AS-level subjects is generally recognized as equivalent to an A-level pass and an AS-level pass respectively in a British International GCE.
- Grade C or above in most HKCEE# subjects is generally recognized as the equivalence of an O-level pass in a British International GCE.
- The Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) in the UK has included the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) in the UCAS Tariff system and the qualification is recognized as comparable to the British GCE A-level. For details, please click here.
- British GCSE, IGCSE and International GCE O-level are internationally recognized as being equivalent in standard in principle.

- How to Become a Participating School / Centre
Schools wishing to present candidates for the GCE examinations must be a registered school with the Education Bureau. School may write to the HKEAA to apply for becoming a GCE participating school. A copy of the registration certificate and fees certificate issued by the Education Bureau should be attached to the application.
Registration details will be sent to all GCE participating schools before the scheduled registration period.

Personal data of candidates are used by the HKEAA and the Examination Board for delivery of examination and assessment services. Whether you provide the requested personal data is voluntary. However, if you fail to provide all the data, or if any of the data are inaccurate or incomplete, the HKEAA may not be able to accept your entry or provide all or part of the examination and assessment services. The personal data submitted may also be used for:
- assisting tertiary institutions and other government / public organizations in their admissions processes;
- assisting tertiary institutions and other government / public organizations in respect of their requests for information in granting scholarships;
- assisting tertiary institutions and other government / public organizations to confirm the candidates' eligibility for financial assistance or other forms of subsidization, in which case, the necessary personal data of the candidates may have to be disclosed to the concerned organizations for verification;
- certifying candidates' examination results in response to legitimate requests;
- processing any refund or payment in relation to the examination;
- conducting and assisting tertiary institutions and other government / public organizations to conduct educational research and analysis;
- conducting educational research and analysis in an anonymous format in which the identities of candidates are not traceable; and
- marketing the services and products of the Examination Board (including examination services, courses, events, publications, and other examination materials or resources) subject to the consent of the candidates.*
The HKEAA may also transfer the personal data of candidates to third parties for use for the above purposes or other directly related purposes, including government / public organizations, schools and educational institutions, banks (for processing refund or payment), and service providers providing various administrative or technical services to facilitate the delivery of the examination and assessment services including but not limited to data punching, registration process, dispatch of examination documents, and the capture, disposal or other processing of data.
In compliance with the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance, access to all personal data will be made available, on payment of a fee, to anyone who can establish his / her right to be informed of such data as are retained by the HKEAA. Please also note that candidates' personal data / correspondence / other information received by the HKEAA may be referred to the Examination Board concerned for delivery of examination and assessment services and for any of the abovementioned purposes or other directly related purposes. In general, upon completion of an examination or examination series and all the connecting examination services, the HKEAA will transfer all such data to the Examination Board who will then assume full control of such data. By then, candidates should approach the Examination Board direct for their personal data / information handling policies if necessary.
