General Aptitude Putonghua Shuiping Kaoshi

Introduction

GAPSK (General Aptitude Putonghua Shuiping Kaoshi) was developed by the authoritative Peking University Institute of Language Education in 2004. GAPSK is supported by the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office of the Ministry of Education of China, Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council of China and Peking University together with China's top linguistics experts and scholars. GAPSK is the only Putonghua proficiency examination approved by the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office of the Ministry of Education of China and the first examination was officially held in 2006. GAPSK is committed to promoting the popularization of Chinese and Putonghua and help students improve their proficiency and level skill in Hong Kong, Macau and overseas countries. GAPSK covers stages from kindergarten to middle school and linked to PSC (Putonghua Shuiping Kaoshi) of the National Language Commission of Ministry of Education of China and providing students a coherent evaluation ladder and assessment platform.

GAPSK is designed to evaluate the Putonghua proficiency of students from kindergarten to secondary school. Kindergarten stage divided into Beginner level, Intermediate level, and Advanced level; Primary School stage divided into Beginner level, Intermediate level, and Advanced level; Secondary School stage has Junior level, each level of the test matches the grade of the student through a correlated assessment mechanism.

The Primary School stage and Secondary School stage has an independent oral test and a four-skill test covering listening, speaking, reading and writing. GAPSK oral tests are linked to the PSC (Putonghua Shuiping Kaoshi) of the National language commission of Ministry of Education of China.

 

 

Eligibility for registration

Any student studying in primary schools or secondary schools (Primary 1 to Secondary 3)

Primary School stage-Beginner level: For Primary 1 to Primary 2 students or equivalent

Primary School stage-Intermediate level: For Primary 3 to Primary 4 students or equivalent

Primary School stage-Advanced level: For Primary 5 to Primary 6 students or equivalent

Secondary School stage: For Secondary 1 to Secondary 3 students or equivalent

How to register:

1. Online registration

Login to the online registration system. Fill in the registration form to reserve the examination seat (subject to relevant terms and conditions). After completing the registration, you must upload the student’s identity document and proof of admission within three working days.

2. Mail application

Please mail the completed application form with the required documents* to "GAPSK Examination Committee" - Room 1803, 18/F, Hollywood Commercial Centre, 610 Nathan Road, Kowloon

*Documents required:

(1) Application form (two pages in total)

(2) A copy of the candidate's student identification document (e.g. a page with a photo of the student ID card or student handbook)

(3) A5 size envelope with $3.7 stamp and return address

(4) Examination fee: Following payment methods are available:
A. Cheques should be made payable to: "GAPSK" (please state the student's name, exam group and contact number on the back)
B. Bank-in account: Hang Seng Bank 390-331031-001 "GAPSK" (please specify the student's name, exam group and contact number)
C. FPS: GAPSK account 4766036 "GAPSK O/B GAPSK LIMITED" (please specify the student's name, exam group and contact number)

Examination fee

The examination fee is HK$580 per candidate (including certificate fee for those who passed the exam). All fees paid are non-refundable and non-transferable. Candidates who are refused to enter examination site due to lateness or absent will be considered as abstentions. Candidates will not be arranged for any make-up examinations and no refund of any examination fees or any other fees paid.

Additional charge

Under special circumstances and subject to the discretion of GAPSK Examination Committee, late registration/late payment application may be considered based on the reasons provided by the candidates. However, candidates are required to pay a surcharge in addition to the payable examination fee.

 

 

Examination venue

It is usually held at the San Po Kong Office of the HKEAA or the school hall/classroom. The exact location of the examination will be announced in the admission ticket.

Parents or accompanying persons of the candidates can pick up and drop off candidates at the "Pick-Up Area" in the examination hall before and after the examination.

 

 

Admission ticket

The GAPSK Examination committee will email or post the admission ticket and other relevant examination information to candidates one week before the examination. If the candidate has not received the admission ticket one week before the exam, please contact the GAPSK Examination committee. After receiving the admission ticket, you should check the personal information on the ticket, such as name, test group etc. immediately. Any errors or missions must be notified to GAPSK Examination Committee as soon as possible.

Candidates must take the exam on the date, time and location specified on the admission ticket. All applications in need of changing the exam date are subject to the availabilities of examination seat, and GAPSK Examination Committee cannot guarantee such rescheduling or approve the changes. However, candidate will need to pay an additional charge if change application is approved.

 

 

Examination certificate

Only candidates who pass the exam will be issued a certificate. Certificates are issued approximately 6-8 weeks after the exam. (The exact date is arranged in accordance with the announcement in the "Guidelines for Issuance of Results"). All unclaimed certificates will be destroyed after the deadline for collection without notice. If you need a replacement, you need to apply to the GAPSK Examination Committee separately, and an additional fee will be charged.
