- DELE para escolares (for young learners) is adapted to students from 11 to 17 years old. If my student is older than 18 years old, any recommendations?
- Does it mean that HKDSE candidates (who are below the age of 18) are barred at B1 examinations (for French, German and Spanish) as the highest level they can sit for?
- No. There is no age limit for language examinations at higher levels. Students who are below 18 years old can take B1 examinations (for French, German and Spanish) or above depending on their language proficiency.
- Are the speaking examinations (for French, German and Spanish) recorded in case the student does not agree with the mark given?
- This will depend on arrangements offered by different organisations. Appeals or reviews of examination results may not be available for some language examinations. Students should contact respective organisations if they have enquiries on specific language examinations.
- If a student (sitting the 2025 HKDSE) wants to take the Other Languages examinations in late 2024, and the examination is cancelled due to bad weather, what should he/she do?
- In case of cancellation of examination, no supplementary examinations will be offered. Candidates will need to opt to sit the next test.
- When deciding when to sit the examination, students are also reminded to take into consideration the time needed for marking and reporting of results to make sure the results are available by end of February of the HKDSE examination year. They should note the examination schedule, time of release of results and issuance of result notices/certificate of the respective language examinations when they decide when to sit the examination.
- If a student sits for N2 or even N1 in Japanese (N5 is the lowest and N1 the highest in JLPT) and gets a pass or better results, will tertiary institutions give more credits to this student in their admission consideration than those who take N3?
- The HKEAA will adopt the results of Other Languages (OL) examinations from the respective organisation which is the examination provider. The proficiency level attained by the candidates will be reported for the overall subject and each component tested. If a candidate attains as high as N2 in Japanese, this level will be reported on his/her HKDSE certificates. Different faculties and departments of tertiary institutions will set their admission requirements regarding the Category C subjects.
- Candidates, teachers and results users can refer to the descriptors of the proficiency levels of the respective OL subjects to understand what the candidates are expected to do / show in their language proficiency at each level. These descriptors are available on the websites of the respective official organisations.
- Is it possible for a candidate to sit the Other Languages examination at different levels in the same year, for instance A2 in April and B1 in December?
- Yes. Candidates can take the examination more than once at the same or different levels in the same year. The HKEAA will report the highest level and result attained under the HKDSE Category C subjects as long as the examinations are taken within two years preceding the year that candidates sit the HKDSE.
