  1. How can I register as a candidate of Applied Learning (ApL) subjects in the HKDSE examination?

    Applied Learning subjects are two-year courses offered by course providers to Secondary 5 (S5) students through schools. Normally, the first year of study (Y1) is in S5 and the second year (Y2) in S6. Students taking ApL subjects may register as school candidates through their schools. Entries from private candidates will normally not be accepted and special approval from the HKEAA is required prior to registration. For details, please refer to section 2.4 of the

     

     

  2. I have completed Y1 of an ApL subject in S5 and would like to complete Y2 when repeating S5 in school. Can I enter for the ApL subject in the HKDSE examination?

    Yes. Students who repeat S5 in schools but will complete Y2 of ApL subjects may enter for "ApL subjects only" as school candidates with the support of school principals and course providers. For details, please refer to section 2.5 of the

     

     

  3. I have completed Y1 of an ApL subject before I went for an exchange programme abroad for one year. I will continue with S6 as well as Y2 of the ApL subject in the coming school year. Can I enter for the ApL subject in the HKDSE examination?

    Yes. Students who completed Y1 but delayed Y2 studies may enter for ApL subjects as school candidates, with the support of school principals and course providers. Special approval is required from the HKEAA prior to registration. The Y1 assessment marks will not be counted and the Y2 marks, subject to a minimum weighting of 50%, will be proportionally adjusted to form the final subject score.

     

     

  4. I entered for an ApL subject in this year’s of HKDSE examination. I intend to repeat S6 in a school. Can I enter for the same ApL subject in the following year of HKDSE examination?

    Yes. Students who repeat S6 in schools and re-take Y2 of an ApL subject may enter as school candidates for the ApL subject concerned with the support of school principals and course providers. Special approval is required from the HKEAA prior to registration. However, the previous Y1 assessment marks will not be counted and the Y2 marks, subject to a minimum weighting of 50%, will be proportionally adjusted to form the final subject score.

     

     

  5. I plan to repeat S6 studies in the coming school year. I have not taken any ApL subjects before but would like to take an ApL subject in the coming school year. Is that possible?

    No. S6 repeaters will only be allowed to re-take an ApL subject previously taken, and will not be allowed to register a new ApL subject for the HKDSE exam.

     

     

  6. I studied an ApL subject in 2014 and was supposed to enter for the subjects' HKDSE examination in 2016. However, I intend to be an exchange student in 2015. Can I continue with the same ApL course after the exchange studies and enter for the ApL subject in the 2017 HKDSE examination?

    Gap-year students can apply to enter for ApL in the HKDSE examination subject to the school's and course provider's support. Special approval should be obtained from the HKEAA prior to registration. If approved, the Y1 assessment marks will not be counted and the Y2 marks, subject to a minimum weighting of 50%, will be proportionally adjusted to form the final subject score.
