40 Together with the Education Bureau (EDB), the HKEAA administers the Language Proficiency Assessment for Teachers (LPAT) for those aspiring to teach English and Putonghua in schools. Candidates are required to attain level 3 or above in all papers of the assessment to become qualified teachers of the respective language subjects. In 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the written and speaking assessments were postponed from February to June/July 2020. This year, 1,320 and 1,515 candidates sat for the English Language and Putonghua assessments respectively. The results, excluding Classroom Language Assessment (CLA), were released on 21 August 2020 while the results for CLA would be released on 18 December 2020.
