The HKCEE and HKALE have been widely recognized by universities and employers worldwide as valid qualifications for higher education and certain professions. With the introduction of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination, the HKCEE is discontinued from 2012 while the HKALE will be discontinued from 2014.
Students entering Secondary One in September 2006 sit for the first HKDSE Examination in 2012, after completing six years of secondary education. The HKDSE Examination comprises four core subjects and 24 elective subjects. A Standards- referenced Reporting approach will be adopted for reporting results.
Recognition of this qualification is extremely important for the next generation, which is why we have been working hard to garner acknowledgment and recognition on all fronts. At the international level, we have been working with organizations and universities worldwide to gain recognition of this new diploma for admission. Locally, we have been advising the government, the higher education sectors and employers about the new standards.
To help students, schools, teachers and parents to stay informed about the development of HKDSE we will provide regular updates through different channels.
To assist schools in improving their teaching and learning, we are also administering the Territory-wide System Assessment (TSA) for primary schools and secondary schools.
In collaboration with hundreds of examination boards and educational institutions, we conduct a wide range of examinations that help students pursue further studies overseas or develop their interest in other areas such as music and dance.
