The Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) in the UK has included the HKDSE in the UCAS Tariff system with tariff points awarded to 24 HKDSE subjects. The qualification is recognized as comparable to the UK GCE A Level. The UCAS tariff value for HKDSE is as follows:

In addition, the HKEAA has been working closely with the higher education community of the UK to promote the HKDSE qualification. Oxford and other UK universities announced in January 2011 that they will admit students completing the HKDSE direct to three-year undergraduate degree programmes of their institutions. Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE)
For HKCEE subjects, a grade of "C" or above is equivalent to a pass in GCE O-Level examination conducted by a British awarding body, except English Language (Syllabus A), Accommodation & Catering Services and Fashion & Clothing.
Starting from 2007 HKCEE, standards-referenced reporting is adopted in Chinese Language and English Language. Candidates' levels of performance are reported using levels with reference to a set of standards for the subject. The results in the two language subjects are recognized as equivalent to the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) results as follows:

Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE)
For A level subjects, a grade of "E" or above is equivalent to a pass in GCE A Level examinations conducted by a British awarding body. HKCEE and HKALE qualifications are recognized by British Universities for entrance purposes.
