The HKEAA administers both the Theory Examinations and the Practical Examinations of ABRSM. ABRSM exams are the most popular music examinations in Hong Kong.

Theory examinations are conducted three times a year, viz. in February, June and October. Practical (Grade and Diploma) examinations are usually held from April to May and August to Mid-November.

There are no specific entry requirements for the Theory examinations and from Grades 1 to 5 for the Practical examinations. For candidates entering Grades 6, 7 and 8 of Practical examinations, a pass in Grade 5 or above of Theory / Practical Musicianship Examinations / solo Jazz subject is required.

Payment Method (in person and by post)
For detailed payment instructions, please refer to the reverse of demand note which will be given when the entry form is accepted. Fees paid are not refundable and not transferable from one candidate to another or from one examination to another. No entry will normally be accepted after the registration period.
Registration in Person/by a Representative
Applicants may submit an entry form in person or have the completed entry form handed in by a representative during the specified period. The following should also be submitted:

a photocopy of the candidate's Hong Kong Identity Card / Passport / Birth Certificate (for verification purposes only);
-
for entering Practical examination Grades 6 to 8, a photocopy of the candidate's Theory examination Grade 5 or above / Practical Musicianship Examinations / solo Jazz subject examination result / certificate (for verification purposes only).
Registration by Post
The following should be attached to an entry form sent by post:

a photocopy of the candidate's Hong Kong Identity Card / Passport / Birth Certificate (for verification purposes only) which will be destroyed after the registration period;

for entering Practical examination Grades 6 to 8, a photocopy of the candidate's Theory examination Grade 5 or above / Practical Musicianship Examinations / solo Jazz subject examination result / certificate (for verification purposes only)
- a stamped ($1.4), self-addressed envelope for sending the demand note for payment of examination fees.
On-line Registration (not applicable to candidates entering for the Diploma or Ensembles Examinations)
Applicants may submit their registration on-line (online.hkeaa.edu.hk) during the specified registration period. For the registration procedures, please refer to the following guidelines:

Applicants are required to provide an image file of the following document:

candidate's Hong Kong Identity Card / Passport / Birth Certificate (for verification purposes only);

Candidates can apply for checking their Theory papers by submitting their applications directly to ABRSM. Candidates may apply for checking of theory papers that are taken within twelve weeks after the examination. Late application is not accepted. For details, please visit the web site www.abrsm.org.

Personal particulars submitted for the registration of ABRSM exams will be used for the following purposes :
- Conducting the examinations,
- Assisting tertiary institutions in their admission processes,
- Certifying candidate's examination results in response to legitimate requests,
- Conducting educational research and analysis,
- Sending information related to the ABRSM to the applicants.
Limited free copies of the regulations and syllabuses are available for distribution at the International and Professional Examinations Division of the HKEAA San Po Kong Sub-office. They may also be sent to candidates upon request and provision of a stamped & self-addressed envelope.
- For Practical Examination, the size of envelope should be at least 7" x 10". The postage is $3.7 for one copy of syllabus. Please specify the name of instrument in your request.
- For Diploma Examination, the size of envelope should be 9" x 12". The postage is $8.2 for one copy of Music Performance syllabus. Please specify the subject line (Music Performance or Instrumental / Vocal Teaching or Music Direction).
