Applied Learning subjects are elective subjects which are developed by course providers and approved by the Education Bureau. Candidates taking Applied Learning subjects are required to take 8 to 10 assessment tasks. These formative and summative assessments are undertaken by course providers. However, HKEAA is responsible for monitoring the process and the moderation of final assessment results.
Assessment ObjectivesApplied Learning subjects aim at evaluating candidates' knowledge, understanding and skills related to a particular profession or trade, and their generic skills in authentic contexts. The assessment objectives for individual subjects vary, but in general they cover each of the five curriculum pillars stipulated in the curriculum framework, namely:
(a) career-related competencies;
(b) foundation skills;
(c) thinking skills;
(d) people skills; and
(e) values and attitudes.
In order to ensure the consistency of assessment standards, the HKEAA is responsible for the moderation of the assessment results submitted by the course providers. In general, the moderation process involves the reviewing of subject assessment results and selected samples of candidates' work by a moderation panel. The moderated results of Applied Learning subjects will be recorded in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination certificate.
