Introduction

IntroductionEach year, our examinations and assessments are supported by hundreds of teaching experts in the tertiary and school education sectors. They fulfill the important role of examination design, question paper development and the establishment of standards.

Each of these roles allows you to increase your professional development and make a significant contribution to assessment. Throughout the process, we will ensure you have ample resources and support to carry out your duties well. We will provide full administrative support, detailed instructions, and training for both general marking and onscreen marking.

What are the roles?

Moderation Committees
Moderation committees, each comprising a Chief Examiner, a setter or co-setters, moderators and a subject manager, is responsible for the development of question papers and marking schemes.
Markers
Their main responsibility is to mark candidates’ examination scripts according to the agreed marking scheme and procedures.
Marking assistants
Marking assistants are required to help with the marking of relatively objective items.
Centre supervisors, invigilators and waiting room supervisors
The positions are taken up by teaching staff from schools participating public examinations. Invigilators will be recruited should there be insufficient staff for the positions.

 

Who is eligible?

Members of the moderation committee are subject experts or experienced teachers in secondary schools or tertiary institutions.
To become a marker you will need to be:
  • currently teaching a relevant subject or
  • recently retired from teaching or
  • University students majoring in relevant subjects

     

Recruitment process

To apply for a marker / marking assistant position, please fill out the online application form. Members of the moderation committee are nominated by school principal or selected from a pool of experienced markers.
