Welcome to the web page of the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority.
I am extremely honoured and proud to become Chairman of the Council of the HKEAA, an organization that has contributed towards the betterment of the community by consistently delivering reliable, equitable and world-class examinations and assessment services year after year. I am grateful to be part of this legacy, and most excited to be working with the entire education sector, employers and members of the public, in continually raising this standard of excellence which has become synonymous with the international reputation of Hong Kong.
Of priority, is the smooth implementation of the New Academic Structure, one that will change the way our young people live, learn and interact. The new curriculum will reflect a broad, balanced and diversified approach, focusing not only on a student’s academic core, but also their critical thinking and creative abilities while nurturing a positive attitude and beliefs; all crucial components and soft competency skills that contribute towards developing the individual as a total person.
Underpinning the new curriculum is the focus on assessment for learning. To be delivered through various core subjects including Liberal Studies, this element, an integral part of the learning, teaching and feedback cycle, will undoubtedly facilitate better learning and improve teaching. We will assist in this process by providing a wealth of invaluable and pertinent assessment data and feedback to schools and teachers, which will help them fine-tune their teaching approaches. The potential for assessment for learning is indeed vast, and I know it will play a critical role in developing the young people of Hong Kong and the critical and competitive strength of the future generation.
We are placing equal emphasis on another important aspect of our work, the development of international and professional examinations, which has seen substantial growth in the last two years. The scope of work is flourishing, and we look forward to widening opportunities in this area, broadening the current offer of over 200 international examinations and qualifications to Hong Kong.
By capitalizing on our strength in examinations and assessment, most notably that of implementing education reform and institutionalizing assessment technology, we hope to extend our global reach by building and adding networks with other assessment bodies with similar challenges, and working towards our vision of becoming a leading world-class provider and partner in this field, at a local, regional and global level.
Engagement with the community and our stakeholders including schools, the higher education sector, students and parents, employers and the media, has underscored our success for decades. The HKEAA staff members and I share a deep commitment in strengthening our partnerships with these groups, and in enhancing communication with members of the public so our work can be better understood. Proactive engagement with the broader community is therefore crucial. We will regularly engage all of our stakeholders, deepening their understanding of our role, and soliciting their feedback and views so as to improve our services.
The Authority is what it is today because of the dedication and hard work of our people. With people front and center in everything we do, we plan to enhance our resources for learning and step up investment in them at every level, by providing lifelong and continued professional learning and development pathways, broadening their exposure and heightening networking opportunities so together, we can galvanize the community towards a winning culture, and provide the very best examinations and assessment culture possible.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support and look forward to working together in the future.
Eddie Ng Hak-kim, SBS, JP
