Examination Centres and Rescheduling of Speaking Examinations

Questions:

Answers:

  1. Why am I not allocated to the examination centres according to my choice of district?

Candidates were informed of the arrangements on examination centres in the ‘Instructions to Applicants’ of the 2019 HKDSE, which states that they may choose the examination centre district but they will only be allocated to the examination centre district of their choice if sufficient accommodation is available. Otherwise, they will be allocated to centres in the nearest district.

Candidates should note that the choice of examination centre district does not apply to speaking examinations, practical examinations and subjects with small entries.

  2. I don’t know how to get to an examination centre. May I request the HKEAA to provide the contact number of the school for enquiry?

The addresses of the examination centres that you have been allocated to are stated on your admission form. You may check out the location map of individual centres on the HKEAA website from 1 March 2019. For details of the public transport, you may consult the respective transport companies. The useful telephone numbers are listed in the ‘Handbook for Candidates’. Candidates are advised not to call the school office of the examination centre.

  3. I want to reschedule my speaking examination. How can I make an application?

Candidates should attend their speaking examinations according to the dates and times specified on their admission form. The HKEAA may at its discretion allow a candidate to attend a speaking examination (i.e. Chinese Language and English Language) at a session other than that indicated on his/her admission form.

If you wish to reschedule the Chinese Language or English Language speaking examination, you should apply from 1 March 2019 at the HKEAA Southorn Centre office (Address: 12/F, Southorn Centre, 130 Hennessy Road, Wan Chai) in person or through an authorised representative with the original copy of both the admission form and supporting documents. If you apply via an authorised representative, your representative should also produce a photocopy of your identification document for inspection and an authorisation letter with your signature and the dates on which you will be available for the speaking examination for the processing of the HKEAA.

For details about the supplementary fees, please refer to Q5 below.

    • I did not attend the speaking examination due to illness. Can I reschedule the speaking examination?

Yes. Candidates applying for rescheduling a speaking examination due to illness should submit their application within 3 working days (Monday to Friday during office hours) after the original examination date and the original copy of the medical certificate is required.

      • Do I need to pay a supplementary fee if I apply for rescheduling of a speaking examination?

A supplementary fee of HK$282 per subject will be charged if you make an application on or before the scheduled speaking examination date. If you apply within 3 working days (Monday to Friday during office hours) after the examination date, a supplementary fee of HK$398 will be charged.

The supplementary fee will be waived for rescheduling due to illness or timetable clash with public examinations held by the HKEAA/internal examinations in secondary schools/speech day organised by schools approved for participation in the HKDSE (a certification letter from the school is required). Candidates applying for rescheduling due to illness must submit their applications together with original documentary proof of their illness to be eligible for the fee waiver.

Late applications will not be accepted.
